Elon Musk vs Europe
Musk Europe's new headache – concerns about influenced public opinion

The world's richest man Elon Musk has recently criticized several European leaders and taken a stand on controversial issues such as immigration. The actions come just before Donald Trump is to be sworn into the White House. Several European leaders have been cautious about counterattacking out of concern that it could damage relations with the incoming president, writes the Wall Street Journal.

Unlike Trump's previous presidency, when leaders around the world had to deal with Trump's statements on social media, they will now also have to deal with attacks and opinions from Musk.

One concern is that Musk's influence on social media could influence public opinion in Europe, writes the newspaper.

Trudeau's resignation
Biden praises Trudeau: "Made the world a better place"

US President Joe Biden has held talks with Canada's outgoing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the day after his resignation announcement.

In a statement, Biden praised Trudeau’s “commitment, optimism and strategic vision” and said he was proud to call him his friend.

“The U.S.-Canada alliance is stronger because of him. The American and Canadian people are safer because of him. And the world is a better place because of him.”

North Korea crisis
North Korea confirms missile test – to “deter rivals”

North Korea confirmed that it conducted a test of a new hypersonic medium-range missile on Monday, Reuters reports. According to state media, the missile flew 1,500 kilometers and reached a top speed of “12 times the speed of sound” before crashing into the sea between South Korea and Japan.

According to the information, the weapon will be used to “neutralize rivals in the Pacific Ocean.”

The test, which was overseen by North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un, is part of North Korea’s drive to expand its nuclear weapons program. However, South Korean authorities question the country’s information about the missile’s capacity and range. The incident coincided with a visit by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to Seoul, where the threat from North Korean neighbors was discussed, among other things.

Jean-Marie Le Pen 1928-2025
Le Pen's deed is praised by the right - cut by the left

The party leader of the National Rally, Jordan Bardella, remembers the party's founder Jean-Marie Le Pen as a man who "has always served France, its identity and sovereignty".

"Today I think with sadness of his family, his loved ones and of course Marine, whose grief must be respected", writes Bardella on X.

Marine Le Pen is a front figure for the party that her father founded. She has not yet commented on the death.

However, several other French nationalist politicians are quick to pay tribute to the dead politician. The party's vice-chairman Sébastien Chenu believes that Le Pen was the very "embodiment of courage".

Jean-Luc Mélenchon, leader of the left wing in French politics, has a completely different view. On Platform X, he writes that Jean-Marie Le Pen's actions were "unacceptable".

"The fight against the hatred, racism, Islamophobia and anti-Semitism that he spread continues."

Political situation in Austria
Analysis: Historic decision turns everything upside down

The fact that the far-right FPÖ party is allowed to form a government in Austria turns everything upside down, writes Florian Asamer in an analysis in the Austrian Die Presse. The decision means the end of the political center, he believes.

Many have seen this development as completely unthinkable, writes Doris Helmberger-Fleckl in Die Furche. But it became a reality after talks between the conservative ÖVP, the social democratic SPÖ and the liberal Neos collapsed.

"The history books will one day clarify who is responsible for this."

The conditions are now optimal for the FPÖ, says Sigrid Brandstätter in Oberösterreichische Nachrichten.

“Ahead of them stands an ÖVP that absolutely wants to remain in government,” she writes.

In an analysis in the newspaper Kleine Zeitung, Ernst Sittinger writes that FPÖ party leader Herbert Kickl has long waged war against the “system” by attacking upwards. The question is therefore who he should wage war against if he himself, as Chancellor, is at the top. Perhaps against Brussels or against the news media, Sittinger believes.

The war in Sudan
USA: The militia RSF guilty of genocide in Sudan

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF), the militia that is fighting the country’s army in the civil war in Sudan, is guilty of genocide. This is what US Secretary of State Antony Blinken says, according to the New York Times.

– The RSF and allied militias have systematically murdered men and boys, including small children, on ethnic grounds. They have also subjected women and girls from certain ethnic groups to rape and other brutal sexual violence.

The US is now imposing a series of sanctions targeting RSF, including against its leader Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo and seven companies in the
