EU court raises alarm over Danish “ghetto law”
Denmark’s rewritten “ghetto law” can lead to discrimination against people based on their ethnicity. The EU court ruled in a ruling on Thursday. The EU court is leaving it up to Danish courts to decide on the matter.
The law states that an area may not have more than 50 percent “non-Western” residents. If an area is listed as a “ghetto,” landlords can choose to convert, demolish or sell the homes.
In the Gellerup area of Aarhus, which has been classified as a parallel community, wild cheers erupted among a group of people who gathered to monitor the EU court’s decision. In Gellerup, 100 families who lost their homes due to the law are planning to demand compensation from the state, according to Jyllands-Posten.
The war in Sudan
UN: 1,000 civilians killed in three days in Sudan
More than 1,000 civilians were killed in April when paramilitary forces took over the Zamzam refugee camp in Sudan. The UN writes in a new report, according to Reuters.
Around half a million people were living in the refugee camp in the Darfur region when the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, RSF, took over for three days from April 11 to 13. A third of the victims were killed in outright executions.
“Such deliberate killing of civilians or hors de combat (people who have been rendered unfit for combat, ed.anm) may constitute the war crime of murder,” writes UN Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk.
The civil war between the RSF and the Sudanese military has been going on since 2023 and is considered the worst humanitarian disaster in the world. More than 40,000 have been killed and 14 million have been forced from their homes.

Swedish gang methods for export: "Child soldiers"
Criminal gangs around Europe are inspired by the Swedish gangs' method of using children as perpetrators. Europol reports for SVT Nyheter.
- We see that it is spreading like wildfire, it is no longer a Swedish problem but a European one, says Andy Kraag, head of the European Centre for Organised Crime.
He says that the concept of "Swedish child soldiers" is a well-known concept at the agency. Another tactic that European networks have adopted is to recruit via digital platforms such as social media, gaming services or encryption services via advertisements.
The climate threat Global challenges
The "crown jewel" of US climate research is being shut down
The Trump administration is to close the National Centre for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Colorado, one of the world's leading climate research institutes, reports USA Today.
“This facility is one of the country’s biggest sources of climate alarmism,” says White House budget director Russ Vought.
The announcement has drawn harsh criticism from climate scientists, who highlight NCAR’s important role in research on tropical cyclones, among other things.
Climate scientist Roger Pielke Jr. at the American Enterprise Institute calls NCAR the “crown jewel” of American climate research.
