"Washington will make it through July - if you survive June 15"
If the US government manages to hang on until June 15, tax revenues and various emergency funding will likely keep the ship afloat until at least the end of July. That assessment is made by the Congressional Budget Office CBO, reports CNBC.
CBO emphasizes – just as in previous assessments – that there is great uncertainty about how the ability to pay looks like at the beginning of June.
"If the debt ceiling remains unchanged, there is an imminent risk that the government will no longer be able to pay all of its obligations sometime in the first two weeks of June," the CBO writes in its statement according to CNBC.

US ambassador recalled after weapons allegation
South Africa is recalling US ambassador Reuben Brigety after he accused the country of supplying Russia with weapons and ammunition, writes The Guardian.
Brigety claimed that in December South Africa delivered weapons to a Russian ship near Cape Town, but according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, there is no evidence that this has happened. President Cyril Ramaphosa is said to have initiated an investigation even before the ambassador's statement.
South Africa's Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor will also speak with his American counterpart Antony Blinken.

British disappointment: Let Zelenskyj do the Eurovision speech
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak criticizes the decision of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) not to allow Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj to speak during this weekend's Eurovision final, reports AFP.
- The Prime Minister feels that it would be appropriate for President Zelensky to speak at the event, and we are disappointed by the EBU's decision, says his spokesperson.
The EBU refers to its "strict rules" that the competition should be non-political. However, the British government believes that the values the Ukrainian people are fighting for are "fundamental, not political", which they believe Eurovision also recognized when Russia was banned from the competition.
Ukraine won Eurovision last year, but this year's contest is being held in Great Britain because of the war.
