Trained soldiers 'ready' for counter-offensive: 'Prepare us all our lives'
Ukrainian soldiers training in full force ahead of the much-talked-about spring offensive now say they are ready to launch the assault they hope will mean an end to the war, Reuters reports.
- We have been preparing for about a month. And before that we have been preparing our whole lives, says a 28-year-old soldier training in the southern Dnipropetrovsk region.
Since last week, Ukrainian forces have begun to push back Russian forces in and around the town of Bachmut. Something that, according to Ukraine, has led to the country's first significant progress on the front line in six months.
"The last few days have shown that we can move forward and destroy the enemy even under such extremely difficult conditions," writes commander Oleksandr Syrskyj on Telegram.
At the same time, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy states that he received promises from British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak that new drones with a range of 200 kilometers will be delivered. The British government also announced that it will begin training Ukrainian pilots to fly fighter jets.
