EU proposes new sanctions package against Russia
The European Commission has proposed to the member states to introduce an eleventh round of sanctions against Russia after the war in Ukraine, reports AFP.
The purpose of the sanctions should be to reduce Russian tax evasion, according to the European Commission's spokesperson Eric Mamer.
- This package will focus on the implementation of sanctions, their effectiveness and how we can stop those who try to avoid the sanctions, says Mamer.
In April, Russian Forbes reported that the wealth of the Russian elite has increased in the past year, despite tough restrictions and that many of the country's richest are on sanctions lists.
