More reports of Ukrainian strikes - Russian military blogger: 'Starting to heat up'
Information is now coming from several sources indicating that Ukraine has launched a counter-offensive, although the extent is unclear, writes The Economist.
The newspaper has spoken to "Western representatives with knowledge of the situation" who state that Ukraine has advanced five to six kilometers in Novodonetske in the Russian-occupied region of Donetsk.
The Russian military blogger Semjon Pegov, who goes by the alias "Wargonzo" and is considered to be close to the Kremlin, states that "the enemy had some success" with an attack in Novoselivka in Donetsk. He also says that the news from the area is becoming "more and more alarming" and that "it has started to heat up", according to Sky News.
At the same time, Ukraine's Deputy Minister of Defense Hanna Maljar claims that Ukrainian forces have retaken areas around the town of Bachmut, which was the center of the fighting during the spring. According to The Economist, there have also been reports of fighting going on in the direction of the city of Soledar.
Russia, for its part, has claimed that the ground attacks were repulsed and that the Russian troops caused Ukraine heavy losses.
