The world is waiting for Israel's response after Iran's attack.
But the messages are twofold.
- The last thing Israel wants is war, says President Isaac Herzog.
At the same time, Deputy Prime Minister Benny Gantz said that "Israel will demand that Iran pay the price".
Quick version
Israel's President Isaac Herzog is now commenting on the night's attacks where the country was attacked with hundreds of robots and drones.
- This is like a real war. I mean, this is a declaration of war," he told Sky News.
He compares it to if the attack had been directed at Britain, saying that proportionally 3,500 drones and robots would have been launched.
- There is an empire of evil in Tehran, which has its proxies all over the region and cells all over the world.
Want to build regional coalition
President Herzog he was clear that Israel does not want to escalate the conflict.
- The last thing Israel wants in this region, ever since it was created, is to go to war. We seek peace.
Want to build regional coalition
At the same time, Israel's war cabinet has been discussing how to respond to Iran's attack.
At 19 Swedish time, NBC News reported that the meeting has ended after several hours of deliberation - and the world is now anxiously awaiting word on what was said.
And before their meeting, the tones were different from the president's.
- Faced with the threat from Iran, we will build a regional coalition and demand that Iran pay the price, in the way and at the time that benefits us, Deputy Prime Minister Benny Gantzsaid at the time.
The G7 countries condemn
Several countries have expressed concern that the situation in the Middle East will escalate.
US President Joe Biden has been clear to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the US will not participate in any military strikes against Iran, reports CNN.
In a telephone conversation with Netanyahu, Biden is said to have praised Israel's defense capabilities and said that retaliation need not be necessary.
Russia, China, France and Germany have also urged Israel to exercise restraint, writes Reuters.
On Sunday, Joe Biden gathered the G7 countries to discuss an "urgent diplomatic response" to Iran's attack on Israel.
After the countries' video conference, the group wrote that they condemn Iran's attack.
“We will continue to work to stabilize the situation and avoid further escalation. We demand that Iran and its allies stop their attacks," says the group according to TT.
In addition to the United States, the G7 consists of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom.
Israel was attacked from four directions, according to Iranian state media, with attacks from Yemen, Lebanon and Iraq, in addition to Iran.
