Indian Muslim: We defend the mosque with our lives
The threat to mosques is driving many Muslim voters to the polls in India. In several places in the northern parts of the country, Hindu activists have called for the construction of temples and the demolition of Muslim monuments.
One of those places is the city of Mathura, where politicians from the ruling BJP party have backed plans to demolish the Shahi Idgah mosque. Hindus believe it is built on the birthplace of the Hindu god Krishna.
At the polling station queues in Mathara, AFP met Muslim teacher Tasleem Qureshi.
- We will not let that happen, we will defend the mosque with our lives, she says.

The political situation in Denmark
Danish governing parties are shaken by disaster figures
Support for Denmark's two state-bearing parties, the Social Democrats and bourgeois Venstre, has plummeted since the 2022 election. This shows a survey published by TV2 and Politiken.
Venstre receives 6.5 percent of the support, which is the worst figure ever in a survey by the company Megafon. The Social Democrats are down to 17.6 percent – a loss of ten percentage points since the election.
"This poll will send shock waves through the Social Democrats and the Left. Because those are catastrophic numbers for both," writes TV2's political editor Hans Redder.
The Social Democrats and Venstre are traditionally enemies, but formed a government coalition after the last election.

No spring in Denmark either - a new rain record is expected
Those who yearn for spring weather in Sweden can at least take comfort in the fact that we are not alone in having it cold and wet. In Denmark, it has rained somewhere in the country almost every day in April, reports Danmarks Radio.
At 09:00 on Friday morning, it had rained 94.9 millimeters so far in April. This means that only 3.2 millimeters more rain is needed for the 88-year-old rain record for the month of April to be broken.
Mikael Scharling, climatologist at Denmark's Meteorological Institute (DMI), tells TT that climate change is a cause of the unusually wet April days.
- This is why we will also see more temperature and precipitation records, he says.
