The European Commission is opening to ban "Tiktok Lite", a feature within the app that is considered addictive. This is stated in a press release.
In France and Spain, Tiktok users get access to "Lite", which gives users points for completing tasks on the app, such as liking content, following accounts and inviting friends. The commission writes that the company has not carried out a sufficient risk assessment of how it affects users - especially young people's mental health.
"We stand ready to take action under the Digital Services Act, including shutting down Tiktok Lite," says Commissioner Thierry Breton in the press release.
Tiktok says in a statement that it is "disappointed" by the EU's review.

Tiktok is facing a legal battle over the company's future in the US
Tiktok's management says it will "go to court for a legal battle" after the US House of Representatives voted to remove the ability to download the app. That's what Bloomberg writes.
The owner company Bytedance believes it has a good chance of winning in court, the news agency further writes. They can point to the fact that 170 million Americans use the platform, and that it would be against constitutional freedom of speech to prevent them from doing so.
Before the bill becomes law, it must be voted on in the Senate and then signed by Joe Biden.
