US President Joe Biden sees clear parallels between the world situation today and the world situation during the Second World War. He says this during a speech in France due to the fact that today is 80 years since D-Day, when the Allies landed on the beaches of Normandy.
- The dark forces that the heroes fought here never went away. The struggle between dictatorships and freedom never ends, he says and continues:
- Here in Europe, we have a clear example. Ukraine has been invaded by a tyrant who is out to dominate.
Biden also says that it is "unthinkable" to bow to dictatorships.
- If we do that, we forget what happened on these beaches 80 years ago. History has taught us that freedom is not free.

US President Joe Biden spoke and thanked everyone who "did their duty" on D-Day 80 years ago - and urged the audience to ask themselves if they would do the same today, writes the BBC.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is also in Normandy.
