Sources: Jeff Bezos ends Washington Post's endorsement of Kamala Harris
For the first time in 30 years, the Washington Post will not endorse one of the US presidential candidates, US media reports. Just a few days ago, the same decision was made by the LA Times.
Two sources told the Washington Post that staffers had drafted an endorsement for Kamala Harris, which had not yet been published. According to the same sources, the new decision must have been made by the magazine's owner, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
According to the newspaper's CEO and publisher Will Lewis, it is more "correct" and in accordance with independent journalism not to support one of the candidates.
But the decision arouses harsh criticism among both current and former writers at the newspaper. Marty Baron, who held Lewis' role until 2021, calls the decision cowardly and spineless. Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter David Moraniss agrees.
- The newspaper that I have loved to work on for 47 years dies in darkness, says Moraniss and alludes to the Washington Post's official slogan "Democracy dies in darkness".

An investigation into the type of data that may have been exposed is ongoing. Trump's campaign team was reportedly notified of the suspected breach this week.
