Thailand and Cambodia have agreed on an immediate ceasefire.
"All forms of fighting, troop movements and provocations shall cease," writes Cambodia's Ministry of Defense on X.
The ceasefire will come into effect at 06:00, Swedish time, and the countries will return to the previous agreement they signed last summer.
The civilians who have been affected will be allowed to return home "as soon as possible", it also says in the agreement signed by both countries' defense ministers.
The announcement comes after three days of negotiations between the countries – and the agreement “pave the way for a new chapter of peace and cooperation between the two nations”.
Recent weeks have been marked by violence between the countries. On Friday morning, Cambodia’s Defense Ministry stated that it had been subjected to a ”large- scale airstrike”.
The Swedish Foreign Ministry has advised against travel to the border area between Thailand and Cambodia since December 12.
The countries have agreed on a ceasefire twice since the unrest broke out in May, but without keeping it.
Cambodians are fleeing their homes because of the fighting.
Thais who have fled their homes are taking shelter in an evacuation center in Buriram province.
