Thailand and Cambodia have signed a new ceasefire
Thailand and Cambodia have agreed on a new ceasefire agreement, the countries confirmed according to several news agencies. The countries will return to the agreement signed on July 28.
According to the agreement, both Thailand and Cambodia will allow residents of the border region to return to their homes “in a safe and dignified manner”.
The unrest between the countries began in May. Since then, ceasefire agreements have been signed on two occasions, most recently in October. The fighting resumed in November.
Thailand-Cambodia border conflict – the point is this
- Fighting between Thailand and Cambodia resumed in December 2025 after the ceasefire from July was broken, with deadly attacks along the border.
- More than 500,000 people have been forced to flee their homes in Cambodia and around 400,000 in Thailand, according to authorities and AFP.
- At least 60 people have been killed in the fighting in recent weeks, where both civilians and soldiers have been affected, several international media outlets report.
- The Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs extended the travel advisory to areas within 50 kilometers of the border, which led to travel companies canceling trips to Koh Chang, among others.
- Cambodia has closed all border crossings with Thailand and hundreds of schools have been closed on both sides of the border due to the security situation.
