Ericsson's layoffs

Expert believes that AI has affected Ericsson: "You can do more"

Handelsbanken's telecom analyst Daniel Djurberg believes that AI played a role in Ericsson's decision to lay off 1,600 employees in Sweden.

- You can do more with the help of generative AI and other things today and still maintain good efficiency and get a lot of production out of it. Even if you then reduce the staff. Unfortunately, he tells SR Ekot.

The background to the savings package is that orders to Ericsson appear to be decreasing during the first half of the year, according to Djurberg.

Expert on Ericsson's big layoff: "Worrying"

Today's news that telecom giant Ericsson is laying off 1,600 jobs in Sweden raises several tough questions about Swedish unemployment. This is what Ekot's economic commentator Knut Kainz Rognerud says in a comment.

The Swedish Public Employment Service released figures yesterday showing that layoff notices decreased sharply in December and that unemployment has fallen to the lowest level since spring 2024. Ericsson's announcement may therefore be worrying for the Swedish industry.

– Is this a deviation from the trend or are there more industrial companies thinking about how tough it is to maintain profitability towards shareholders?, Rognerud wonders in Ekot.
