The man tricked the police into a trap before detonating the explosive device.  

Several people were seriously injured in the explosion in the high-rise building in Germany.  

The 57-year-old suspect has connections to the "corona deniers environment", according to Bild.  

Several people, including police officers and firefighters, have been injured in an explosion in Ratingen in Germany, the German police announced on Twitter.  

Some of them are said to have life-threatening injuries.  

The explosion occurred in an apartment in a multi-storey building.

According to information to Bild, the police and emergency services were alerted about "a helpless person" in the apartment. The explosion is said to have occurred when they opened the apartment door.  

- Neighbors have noticed that the mailbox of an apartment has been overflowing, and there was therefore a suspicion that someone was in need. When the police arrived, the apartment door was opened. A man caused the detonation with an unknown object, says the country's regional minister 

Herberd Stormed the apartment  

According to the German Westdeutsche Zeitung, a mother and her son must have lived in the apartment where the explosion occurred. The son must have been the one who detonated the explosion.  

After the explosion, the police allegedly stormed the home and arrested the son, a 57-year-old man. The man is said to be seriously injured. Whether he was injured as a result of the explosion or during the arrest is unclear.  

According to Bild, the man has connections to the corona deniers environment.  

After the arrest, the police also found a dead person in the apartment. According to Bild, it should be the man's mother. She is said to have been in the home for a long time. 

There may have been petrol in the home  

The regional minister Herbert Reul states that a woman and a child should also have been in the apartment when the explosion occurred.  

Bild writes that it is suspected that there was petrol in the home. Witnesses from the scene state that they also heard shots.  

The police have cordoned off a large area around the building. Special forces, helicopters and snipers.are also on the scene
