Riot and violence after attack on ultra-conservative bishop
Bishop Mari Mari Emmanuel was stabbed several times during a Mass in Sydney on Monday. He belongs to an ultra-conservative sect and has been noticed for his harsh statements about, among other things, the covid vaccine and US President Joe Biden, writes the Sydney Morning Herald.
Emmanuel has a habit of live-streaming his Masses on social media, where he has hundreds of thousands of followers, as was the case during Monday's attack.
The incident sparked large protests outside the church, with people trying to push past the cordons to reach the arrested perpetrator. Hundreds of police officers were called to the scene to try to control the aggressive crowd while urging the public to stay away.

Four stabbed in Sydney church - bishop injured
Four people have been injured in a knife attack in a church in Sydney, Australian media reports. One of those stabbed was a bishop who was holding a mass when the attack took place. The victims are said not to have life-threatening injuries.
Since the mass was broadcast live on the church's own website, the attack, which was committed by a man dressed in black and wearing a mask, was shown in real time. A suspected perpetrator has been arrested and is being questioned by the police.
The attack comes just days after a knife attack at a shopping center in Sydney, where six people were killed.
