Greece to save its coast "quietly but methodically"
Greece is investing 780 million euros to protect the country's marine biodiversity and tackle coastal pollution. This is announced by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis ahead of the international conference "Our Ocean" which Athens is hosting this week, Reuters reports.
Among other things, the government aims to reduce plastic waste along the coastlines by 50 percent and to establish marine parks in the Ionian Sea and the Aegean Sea to protect the plant and animal life there.
- Quietly but methodically, Greece plays a leading role in the defense against dramatic climate change, says Mitsotakis.

Obama's negotiators: Grown leaders are slowing down climate action
Climate work in the world is being slowed down by world leaders who see themselves as "adults", says Barack Obama's climate negotiator Todd Stern to The Observer.
- They see themselves as adults and believe that phasing out fossil fuels at the rate the climate movement wants is not realistic, he says.
These "adults" have a lot of influence, which makes it difficult to get through sharper measures, says Stern.
He does not want to single out any leaders specifically, but mentions Rishi Sunak and the UK as examples where climate work has been cut. The government has said there that the climate policy has entailed "unacceptable costs for families".
According to Todd, the growth of renewable energy and the falling costs mean that the world could now reach net zero emissions by 2050.
- It is difficult and will require a huge change in the world economy, but we can do it, says Stern.
