The situation in North Korea

Trump's secret operation revealed - elite force was tasked with eavesdropping on Kim

A top-secret American operation in North Korea was approved by Donald Trump in 2019. The goal was to plant a listening device so that the United States could eavesdrop on leader Kim Jong-Un in the midst of heated negotiations over nuclear weapons, the New York Times reveals.

But the plan failed and three fishermen were killed.

When the selected group that also killed Osama bin Laden, Seal Team 6, arrived at a deserted beach in North Korea one winter night, they thought the beach would be empty, but a boat suddenly appeared. The soldiers opened fire and everyone on the North Korean boat, which was a shellfish fisherman, was reportedly killed.

After that, the group retreated to sea again and never planted the device.

It is unclear what North Korea knows about the operation.

Trump on the operation in North Korea: “I know nothing”

After the revelation of a US operation in North Korea in 2019, Donald Trump says he has not heard of the matter.

The US president personally approved the operation as it was considered extremely sensitive, according to the New York Times.

“I know nothing about it. I am hearing it now for the first time,” Trump told reporters when asked about the revelation.

The US wanted to plant a listening device on North Korean soil to be able to listen to Kim Jong-Un while nuclear talks with Donald Trump were ongoing.

The operation failed when the US force opened fire and killed three civilians.

A classified review from the Pentagon concluded that the killings were justified under the rules of the operation, writes Reuters.
