The drone alarm in Denmark

Reservists called into Denmark after the alert

Danish reservists have been called into service due to recent incidents where drones have been observed over both defense facilities and airports, reports TV2.

It is unclear how many are involved, but according to the channel's sources, it is a couple of hundred reservists. Regardless of the extent, it shows that Denmark is in a "completely exceptional situation," says security policy advisor Jacob Kaarsbo.

- I can't remember hearing about anything like this before.

The country's defense forces have not yet commented.

Danish minister: "This is a new reality"

Although there have been drone sightings, there have been no "significant" disruptions at Danish airports since Thursday, says Danish Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard at a press conference.

He describes the drone activity as a sign of hybrid warfare and draws parallels to how the world learned lessons after the terrorist attacks in the United States on September 11, 2001.

– This is a new reality, for Denmark and many other countries, he says.

Minister of Defense Troels Lund Poulsen says that Denmark has begun purchasing new equipment to strengthen security as quickly as possible. Some is already being delivered today, he says.

Sweden, France, Germany and NATO have offered to contribute to security during the coming days' EU summit in Copenhagen. Even war-torn Ukraine has offered to assist with its expertise in the drone field, according to the Minister of Defense.

Danish warship moves around the Great Belt Bridge

Since Thursday evening, the Danish frigate Niels Juel has been at the Great Belt Bridge, reports Danish BT, referring to the ship tracking service Vesselfinder. The ship appears to have been moving in a figure of eight.

The ship set course from Greenland to Denmark on Monday last week – the same day that Copenhagen airport was closed for several hours due to a drone alarm.

The Danish defense does not want to answer whether the ship was sent due to drone activity in the country.
