Conflicting signals from Trump and Xi on Tiktok deal
China has approved a deal on Tiktok in the US, Donald Trump writes on his social network Truth Social after a phone call with Xi Jinping. The Chinese leader, however, tells Chinese state media that he "welcomes negotiations" on Tiktok.
Both call the phone call on Friday productive, according to Al Jazeera and AFP. Xi Jinping urges the US to end its tariffs against China.
According to Donald Trump, the two leaders have booked several new meetings in South Korea, China and the US, he writes.
The US has demanded that Tiktok's Chinese owner Bytedance sell its operations in the US, writes TT. The Chinese stock market fell ahead of the conversation, which was also supposed to be about a new trade agreement between the countries, according to Bloomberg.
