Trump: "Illegal" to Report Negatively About Me
Journalists who report negatively about Donald Trump's administration have broken the law, the president tells reporters at the White House, writes the New York Times.
- They take a great story and make it bad. You see, I really think it's illegal, Trump says without specifying which law he thinks the journalists are violating.
The New York Times describes Trump's statement as a "significant expansion" of the president's attacks on journalists and their right to criticize the government. Earlier this week, Trump threatened to revoke the licenses of television stations that criticize him - one of the most far-reaching attacks on free media to date, according to Bloomberg.
Pentagon: Journalists May Only Publish Information We Have Approved
The US Department of Defense has introduced tough new rules for journalists covering the Pentagon, several media outlets report. According to new procedures, media outlets must promise not to report information that has not been approved for publication in order not to lose their press corps.
"Wear a badge and follow the rules - or go home," writes Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on X.
The decision is another attempt by the Trump administration to control media reporting. On Friday, the president implied that it is illegal to write negatively about him.
