Political situation in the UK

More than half of the Labour Party wants to replace Keir Starmer

More than one in two members of the British Labour Party want someone other than Keir Starmer to lead the party at the next election. This is according to a survey reported by Sky News, at the same time as the party gathers for a congress in Liverpool today.

53 percent say they want to replace the party leader, while only 31 percent say he is the right man to lead the party in the election.

The survey also shows that 65 percent of members believe that Labour is heading in the wrong direction. Over 60 percent also say that Starmer is doing a poor job as Prime Minister.

Starmer: Farage's racism is tearing Britain apart

Right-wing populist Reform UK's proposals to abolish permanent residence permits in the UK are racist and immoral. Prime Minister Keir Starmer said this in an interview with the BBC in connection with the Labour Party conference in Liverpool.

He accused Reform and its leader Nigel Farage of wanting to “tear the country apart”.

– It is one thing to say that we are going to get rid of illegal immigrants. But it is quite another to say that we are going to start targeting people who have a legal right to be here and start driving them out. They are our neighbours, said Starmer.

The conference is being held the same week that a recent poll showed that Reform would be the clear largest party if there were an election today, while Labour would collapse. But in an interview with the Sunday Times, Starmer says that he believes that the situation can be turned around and that Reform’s advance can be stopped.

– This is the great battle of our time and we must stand united, says Starmer.
