Venezuela releases more political prisoners

At least 80 political prisoners were released in Venezuela on Sunday, according to the rights organization Foro Penal, which is working to compile information on those released from various prisons around the country.

The numbers may therefore be written up.

Venezuela's interim president Delcy Rodríguez, who took over the country's rule after the US captured Nicolás Maduro in early January, has promised to continue the release of political prisoners.

The government states that 626 prisoners have been released so far. However, Foro Penal has only been able to confirm about half of the releases.
