The Russian invasion The peace negotiations
The Kremlin rejects Turkey's ambition to act as a mediator during the war in Ukraine, Sky News reports. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan believes that a "just peace" that both Russia and Ukraine can accept is possible. He said this during a meeting with Russia's Vladimir Putin in connection with a security conference in Kazakhstan on Wednesday.
But the Kremlin spokesman ruled out that Turkey, which during the war tried to maintain good relations with both sides, could mediate.
- No, it is not possible, he says to the state news agency Tass.
It is not clear why Russia opposes Turkey's mediation attempt.
