Political uproar after storming of military base
An internal political row has flared up in Israel after a crowd stormed the Sde Teiman military base on Monday, writes Haaretz.
Defense Minister Yoav Gallant accuses Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir of trying to stop the police from intervening against the protesters. He demands that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu take a strong stand against the coalition members who "were involved" in the storming.
"The events of last night represent a severe blow to the security of the kingdom and to the authority of the government," he continues.
Ben-Gvir, in turn, says that the accusation is completely baseless - and instead thinks that the prime minister should take the opportunity to ask Gallant what he knew about Hamas' plans before October 7.
Crowd stormed military base - demanded that soldiers be released: "Anarchy"
A crowd stormed an Israeli army base on Monday and demanded the release of the nine soldiers arrested on suspicion of abusing a Palestinian prisoner. This is reported by Haaretz.
- What happened here borders on anarchy, says a spokesperson for the military to Ynet.
According to information in several Israeli media, the police did not intervene against the crowd, which was at the military base for hours before it was dispersed.
Members of parliament's far-right parties are said to have attended.
"Civilians storming a military base is a serious incident that severely damages Israeli democracy and plays into the hands of our enemies during the ongoing war," Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said in a statement.

Lice and scabies plague Gaza's children: "Everything is dirty"
The summer heat and the disastrous sanitary conditions in Gaza's many tent camps have caused skin diseases such as lice and scabies to flourish, AP reports. In Deir al-Balah, the little girl Sham al-Hessi cries as her mother anoints her forehead and chest with ointment. Her body is covered in marks from scabies, sores and rashes.
- It's terrible. There are flies on her face. She goes to the bathroom and it gets on her hands. The dirt is huge, says her mother Manar al-Hessi.
Munira al-Nahnal in Khan Yunis tells the news agency that it is impossible to maintain hygiene when people are crowded side by side. At her side stands a little boy scratching his stomach, which is dotted with red rashes.
- One child gets it, and then it spreads to everyone. The water is dirty. Everything is just sand and bugs and garbage.
