Train chaos in France - "no impact on Olympic opening"
The train chaos that affects France a few hours before the opening of the Olympics in Paris will not affect the evening's events, said Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo, according to AFP.
Earlier in the day, the French railway company SNCF and its railway network suffered extensive sabotage.
About 800,000 travelers are affected by the incident. Part of the traffic has now resumed and SNCF is expected to come up with a new solution plan during the afternoon, according to the French public service site France Info.
The Paris prosecutor has opened an investigation into a suspected attempt to undermine "fundamental national interests", writes AFP. In the press release, the prosecutor describes the sabotage as "deliberate damage to SNCF's facilities on the night between July 25 and 26, 2024".

"Massive attack" against French trains - hours before the Olympics
The French high-speed train network, which is used, among other things, by the high-speed trains TGV, has been affected by "malicious acts" that have led to disruptions in several places. This is stated by the French railway company SNCF, according to the AFP news agency. The damage affects the network a few hours before the opening of the Olympics in Paris and in the middle of the holiday season in France.
- This is a massive attack on a large scale to paralyze the TGV network, SNCF told AFP.
According to the company, it is about arson and vandalism. Several trips are expected to be canceled and the traffic disruptions will also last at least the entire weekend. 800,000 travelers are also affected by the disturbances.
Later in the day, Paris prosecutors announced that an investigation had been opened into a suspected attempt to undermine "fundamental national interests".
However, there is currently no indication that these actions have any connection to the Olympics in Paris, writes Le Monde.
The Eurostar trains traveling between London and Paris have also suffered vandalism, reports the news agency Reute
