Expert: The drone may have been sent from a third country
Saturday's drone attack on the Russian air base Olenja on the Kola Peninsula may have been carried out by Ukraine from a third country. That's what Kristian Åtland, chief researcher at the Norwegian Defense Research Institute, told VG.
- Then it is Norway and Finland that are closest, he tells the Norwegian newspaper.
According to Åtland, Ukrainian drones have previously reached the furthest of 1,300 kilometers into Russian territory. If the drone had been sent from Ukraine, that distance record would have been broken by 500 kilometers.
Åtland believes, however, that it is unlikely that the drone was sent from Norway or Finland, but adds:
- This brings us significantly closer to war.
The Olenja base is only 40 miles from the Swedish border and even closer to Norway and Finland.
Drone attack 40 miles from Sweden - Kristersson and the President of Finland have been heard
Ukraine says it carried out a drone attack on the Russian air base Olenja on the Kola Peninsula on
.......................................
Saturday. The base is only 40 miles from Swedish soil, writes Expressen.
The place is even closer to Norway and Finland - and the attack is therefore also noticed there. Finnish President Alexander Stubb tells Ilta-Sanomat that there is no cause for concern.
- We have the situation under control and can react.
Stubb has been in contact with Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M), who shares the view.
"The prime minister shares the Finnish president's basic message that there is no cause for concern. We have war in our immediate area and we follow developments very closely," writes Kristersson's deputy press manager Susan Vo Bergqvist to Expressen.
The information about the attack comes from the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. However, these are not confirmed by any independent party. According to the Barents Observer news site, this is the first attack within the Arctic Circle since the war broke out in February 2022.
