Action on oil tankers in the Philippines postponed
The authorities in the Philippines have postponed an effort to suck up the fuel contained in the oil tanker MT Terra Nova that capsized earlier this week, the AFP news agency reports. At the same time, the country fears an environmental disaster if all the fuel leaks out.
Before 1.4 million liters of industrial fuel can be sucked up from the ship, several valves must be sealed, the country's coast guard states. The effort to soak up the fuel is expected to begin on Tuesday at the earliest.
The Philippine Coast Guard also reports that the oil has reached land. It is so far unclear what kind of damage it has caused.
