Israeli Defense Minister: We Killed Ismail Haniya

Israel has admitted for the first time that it killed Hamas leader Ismail Haniya in Tehran this summer, the Times of Israel reports.

The confirmation comes from Defense Minister Israel Katz as part of a campaign aimed at the Houthi rebels in Yemen. Katz vows that Israel will strike the rebels' "strategic infrastructure" and their leaders in the same way that Israel did against "Haniya, Sinwar and Nasrallah", referring to the killed leaders of Hamas and Hezbollah.

Ismail Haniya was Hamas's top political leader.

Testimonies of “Systematic” Looting of Emergency Supplies

Emergency supplies to Gaza are being “systematically and tactically” looted by armed gangs, says Rafah-based UN official Georgios Petropoulos, according to the New York Times, which has collected testimonies from UN representatives, Israeli officials, Gaza residents and Palestinian businessmen.

Hazem Isleem, a 47-year-old Palestinian truck driver, recounts how his truck filled with flour was looted last month. Armed men forced him to drive to a nearby field and the next morning the load was completely empty. It was terrible, the 47-year-old says.

“But the worst part was that we couldn’t deliver the food to the population.”

Truck drivers and aid groups point to gangs led by a 35-year-old Palestinian man as responsible for several lootings.

Gaza reports 58 deaths in past 24 hours

58 people have been killed in the past 24 hours, AFP reports, citing data from the Hamas-controlled health authority. According to Palestinian doctors, at least 20 people were killed in Israeli airstrikes overnight Monday, AP reports. One of the attacks targeted a tent camp in the Muwasi humanitarian zone, the news agency writes.

According to the Israeli military, the attack targeted a Hamas member who was hiding among civilians in the humanitarian zone.

On Monday, a Palestinian hospital director said that Israeli forces are continuing to target the Kamal Adwan hospital, one of the two functioning hospitals in northern Gaza.

“This morning, drones dropped bombs on the hospital’s courtyards and roof,” says hospital director Hossam Abu Safiyeh.

However, a spokesman for the Israeli military tells AFP that he is not aware of any attacks on the hospital.
