Florida wants to abolish all vaccine requirements
The state of Florida in the US is abolishing all mandatory vaccinations. The decision, which also applies to mandatory vaccinations for children, was presented by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on Thursday.
- Who am I to tell you what your child should put into their body? Your body is a gift from God, said Florida's Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo at the press conference where he and Ron DeSantis announced the plans.
The decision comes in the midst of an intense national debate about vaccines, as US Health Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr. is a well-known vaccine opponent, among others.
Vaccinations against childhood diseases polio and measles, which have long been mandatory for school-age children in Florida, will now be abolished.
Trump on Kennedy: "He has different ideas"
Donald Trump still supports US Health Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr. after he was questioned in the Senate last night, reports Politico.
The president says he did not watch the hearing but that he is convinced that Kennedy Jr. “means very well.”
Trump said that Kennedy Jr. has some slightly different ideas.
– He has a different view on the matter and we want to listen to all of those things, he said.
The hearing was largely about Kennedy’s stance on vaccines. He has previously called the Covid vaccine “the deadliest vaccine ever made.”
Kennedy’s resignation demands during heated Senate grilling
US Health Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr. was pressed hard about his views on vaccines when he was questioned in the Senate last night. He faced harsh criticism from both Democrats and Republicans during the three-hour hearing.
Kennedy Jr. was asked many questions about the Covid vaccine, which he has previously called “the deadliest vaccine ever made.” He did not want to agree with the WHO's estimate that the vaccine had saved several million lives, but after a while admitted that "a lot of lives" had been saved.
Several Democratic senators demanded Kennedy Jr.'s resignation.
- People are being hurt by his reckless indifference to science and truth, said Democrat Ron Wyden.
Kennedy also received harsh criticism from top Republican John Barrasso.
- I am a doctor. Vaccines work. In the Senate confirmation hearings before your appointment, you promised to maintain the highest standards for vaccines. Since then, I have become deeply concerned, Barrasso said, according to the Washington Post.
