Starmer refuses to resign: “I will not throw the country into chaos”

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stubbornly rejects all demands that he resign after Labour's fiasco in the local elections. In an interview with The Observer, he says that he expects to lead the government for a decade and that he will fight against anyone who challenges him.

On Saturday, former Labour Minister Catherine West came forward and demanded his resignation. She gave potential candidates in the government until Monday to announce that they are running, otherwise she would herself begin the process of challenging Starmer.

Starmer has been heavily criticized after the election in which Labour suffered a significant setback, mainly in favor of the right-wing populist Reform UK.
