Trump: Troops May Be Moving to Poland
Donald Trump is open to moving US troops from Germany to Poland, reports Politico.
– Poland would like it. We have a great relationship with Poland. I have a great relationship with the president [...] I like him a lot, so it's possible.
Polish President Karol Nawrocki said this week that the country is ready to receive the soldiers and that he personally intends to try to convince Trump to move them there.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk – a political opponent of the president – is also open to more US troops, but says it should not be at Germany's expense.
Last week, Trump announced that he was moving 5,000 troops from Germany after getting into a verbal spat with Chancellor Friedrich Merz about the Iran war.
The political situation in Poland
Poland's wanted ex-minister flees from Hungary to the United States
Poland's wanted former justice minister Zbigniew Ziobro has fled from Hungary to the United States, AFP reports.
Ziobro
is suspected of abuse of power, of leading a criminal network and of
using money that should have gone to crime victims to buy the Israeli
surveillance system Pegasus – according to reports to spy on his
political opponents.
He was granted asylum in Viktor Orbán's
Hungary, but now that Péter Magyar has come to power, Ziobro is forced
to flee further. Polish media have published pictures of Ziobro in the
US during the day. According to the Polish newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza,
Donald Trump has personally approved his visa.
US midterm elections
American voters: Too much money in politics
Money plays too big a role in American politics, while voters have too little power. Both Democratic and Republican voters agree in a poll conducted by Politico ahead of the fall midterm elections.
72 percent of those surveyed agree that there is too much money in politics, while only five percent do not. A majority believe that individual billionaires have too much power, and that financial contributions from interest groups are a form of corruption that should be regulated more strictly.
At the same time, money continues to flow into various election campaigns. The analysis company Adimpact estimates that $10.8 billion will be spent on political advertising during this year's election campaign, the highest amount so far in a midterm election.
