Resistance to Starmer is growing – even among his own
More and more demands are being made for Keir Starmer to leave the British prime minister's post. According to an opinion poll, a majority of his party colleagues say that he does not have what it takes to turn the situation around, writes The Guardian. 45 percent think that it is therefore time for him to leave his post at his disposal.
Three dozen MPs have also come out and demanded that Starmer pave the way for a change of leadership in an "orderly and dignified manner".
However, Keir Starmer himself still seems determined to stay.
- Tough days like these do not weaken my determination to deliver the change I have promised. Instead, they strengthen it, he tells the newspaper.
Separatist party largest in Wales – for the first time
For the first time ever, the nationalist Plaid Cymru will become the largest party in the Welsh regional parliament, the Senedd, several media outlets report. Party leader Rhun ap Iorwerth, a former journalist, can look forward to becoming the new Prime Minister even though the party failed to achieve its own majority. The party won 43 of the 96 seats.
– My faith in our nation drives me forward every day and Plaid Cymru is ready to serve, not only those who gave their votes to us, but all the citizens of Wales, who have a stake in the future of the nation, he said in his victory speech according to TT.
The result means that all three smaller parts of the United Kingdom, namely Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, will be governed by parties that want to break away from the union.
