France evacuates personnel - promises help to Europe
France
has begun evacuating diplomats and other citizens from Sudan, AFP
reports, citing a statement from the French Foreign Ministry.
In
the statement, France promises to assist in the work of flying out
European citizens and people from "partner countries" but does not give
more details about how this will be done.
Early
on Sunday morning, the United States announced that it had evacuated
embassy staff and their families, a total of just under 100 people. Later on Sunday, the Riksdag will vote on sending a Swedish armed force for an evacuation operation.

The Foreign Ministry urges Swedes in Sudan to leave the country.
"Due
to the security situation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs urges Swedes
in Sudan to leave the country as of April 23, 2023," it says on the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs' website.
Since April 15, the Foreign Ministry has advised against travel to Sudan.

American diplomats have been evacuated from Sudan
US embassy staff and their families have been evacuated from Sudan, President Joe Biden says. They were flown out of the country in a military plane to neighboring Djibouti.
- I am grateful for the unparalleled competence of our military that led to our citizens now being safe, says Biden according to AP. At the same time, he calls on the warring parties to lay down their weapons.
The paramilitary forces RSF, which have been fighting the army for a week now, state that they assisted the Americans in the operation.
