The Israel-Hamas war China's global ambitions
Analysis: The Palestinians are pawns in China's power game
China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi has had a busy day. In the past week, he has met with delegations from both Ukraine and Palestine.
Beijing is trying to appear as a geopolitical heavyweight in a world increasingly divided by the two wars, writes CNN's Simone McCarthy in an analysis. But there are several limitations: China is trying to bring about a solution in Gaza without having deep influence in the region, and is calling for peace in Ukraine but at the same time wants to maintain its close relationship with Russia.
China presents it as a major breakthrough that Palestinian factions united after the meeting in Beijing, writes Amy Mackinnon in Foreign Policy. In fact, experts point out that there have been many agreements between the groups over the years, which in practice have not changed anything, and there is no indication that this is any different.
"Regional experts believe that China is likely to use the talks to bolster its diplomatic credentials as it increasingly seeks to challenge the United States on the world stage."

Norway is to receive 20 seriously ill people from Gaza
20 seriously ill patients are to be evacuated from Gaza and receive care in Norway, the Norwegian migration agency Utlendingsdirektoratet (UDI) announces.
The authority has been tasked with granting entry permits for the patients.
"Norway shall primarily receive minors and women," says a press release from UDI.

"Imagine 100,000 to be evacuated in two hours"
The parts of Gaza that Israel classifies as "safe zones" are shrinking more and more, CNN and Al Jazeera report.
The strip of land is as big as a quarter of Öland. On Monday, 83 percent of it was classified as unsafe for Palestinian civilians, according to figures from the UN agency OCHA. Many point out that in practice there are no safe places.
The latest call from Israel for evacuation came on Monday, prompting a mass exodus from Khan Yunis. Mohammad Saqer, spokesman for Nasser Hospital in the city, says it has since issued 75 death certificates, mainly for women and children.
- Imagine that you have almost 100,000 people to be evacuated in just two hours. It is not enough [...] which explains the high number of dead and wounded among civilians, he told CNN.
A total of 150,000 people are reported to have fled Khan Yunis in recent days.

Bodies recovered after attack on Khan Yunis
Five bodies have been returned to Israel from southern Gaza, the country's IDF forces state, according to several media. One of the dead is preschool teacher Maya Goren. The bodies of four Israeli soldiers have also been brought back.
All five were killed in the Hamas terrorist attack on October 7 last year, but their bodies have been kept in Gaza, writes Bloomberg.
The bodies were brought to Israel from the Khan Yunis area in southern Gaza where Israel carried out attacks this week. According to a spokesperson at Nasser Hospital in the area, at least 75 Palestinians have been killed in the new attacks and more than 200 injured. Around 150,000 have been forced to flee since Monday.
It was already known that the five were dead
