Orbán to Kyiv - to discuss peace with Zelenskyi
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has landed in Kyiv for a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Reuters reports.
Orbán's press manager Bertalan Havasi writes in an email to the news agency that the leaders will discuss peace prospects as well as current issues concerning the countries' relationship.
According to sources to The Guardian, the trip has been planned after lengthy negotiations over rights for Ukraine's Hungarian-speaking minority.
- It was a prerequisite for the meeting that the issue of citizenship rights be resolved. An agreement has been reached in recent weeks, says a Hungarian source.
Critics have accused Orbán of using the issue as a smokescreen to support Russia's cause in the war against Ukraine. Hungary has repeatedly questioned the military support from the EU to Ukraine and instead demanded a ceasefire.

Reactions to the French election
The role of the Republicans in focus before the second election round
France's conservative Republican Party has played a key role by backing President Emmanuel Macron's laws and reforms when he only held a relative majority in the National Assembly. But what role should the party play in a parliament dominated by the right-wing extremist National Assembly? asks the public service site France Info.
If the National Assembly does not get an absolute majority after the second election round, the party will not be able to lead the country's political agenda without the support of other groups. In that case, the Republicans could again have a key role, according to experts France Info has spoken to.
But opinions about such a scenario divide the Republicans.
Before the parliamentary elections, the party found itself in crisis when its leader Eric Ciotti opened for an alliance with the National Assembly. The decision breaks, among other things, against the Republicans' long-standing line of becoming a "barrier" against right-wing extremism by excluding all alliance with the National Assembly.

At the same time, there have been several witness reports of Israeli attacks in and around the city during the night and on Tuesday morning, the BBC writes.
