Guinness breaks sales record – hyped on social media
The Guinness brewery is clearing its reserves at home in Ireland to meet the surging demand in the UK, where the traditional stout has become trendy among young people. The Guardian reports.
– We are producing more Guinness today than we have ever done in our 265-year history, says a spokesperson for the brewery's owner, Diageo.
The reason is a successful social media strategy. In recent years, the brewery has invested in collaborations with influencers to reach young people, not least women.
Celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Olivia Rodrigo have also added to the hype. There is also the drinking game "splitting the G", which involves taking a sip so that the foam crown ends up exactly in line with the G on the glass's Guinness logo.
