Sources: EU may ban Russian gas in new sanctions package
The European Commission is considering bringing forward a ban on Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG), an EU source told Reuters. The sanctions package will be the 19th in a row against Russia and will, according to several sources, be presented to member states on Friday.
The information comes after Donald Trump held talks with EU President Ursula von der Leyen earlier this week.
Trump has demanded that the EU stop all oil purchases from Russia and impose tariffs on China and India, which are major buyers of Russian energy. The EU plans a total stop to Russian oil and gas by 2028, with a ban on short-term contracts starting next year, the news agency writes.

Trump: Putin forced to end the war if oil prices fall
Vladimir Putin has no other choice but to end the war in Ukraine if oil prices fall. This is what Donald Trump said at a press conference with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, writes The Guardian.
He also expressed his disappointment with all countries that continue to buy Russian oil.
– I am willing to take more action, but not when the people I fight for are buying oil from Russia. If oil prices fall, Russia will simply give in, he said.
Trump has previously threatened sanctions against NATO countries that do not stop their purchases of Russian oil.
NATO countries Turkey, Hungary and Slovakia are still buying Russian oil, according to the AP.
