By November 1, 2027, all Russian natural gas will be gone from the EU.

On Monday morning, the EU member states formally approved the autumn agreement to gradually phase out all gas imports from Russia. This will happen in stages, with liquefied natural gas being stopped from January 1, 2027 at the latest, while the last deliveries via pipeline will be stopped by November 1 of the same year.

Hungary and Slovakia, who both voted no on Monday, have however threatened to go to court to overturn the decision.

In connection with the decision, the environmental organization Greenpeace demonstrated against the fact that European countries are instead expected to increase their gas imports from the US.

"The EU must not simply replace this gas with gas from other tyrants," writes activist Thomas Gelin in a press release.
