Stoltenberg: Can't promise that the US will stay in NATO

Jens Stoltenberg does not dare to say that the US will definitely stay in NATO. It is a promise that "no one can make", he says in an interview with the German Der Spiegel. The former NATO secretary general also says that European member states must do "everything we can" to reduce the risk of a US withdrawal.

He also says that he supports Europe's response to Donald Trump's threat to take over Greenland.

Stoltenberg also says that the most important thing right now "is to prevent further measures" from the US regarding the Danish territory.

DR: European soldiers flock to Greenland

Danish, French and German military aircraft are currently flying in shuttle service with soldiers to Greenland. This is shown by public flight tracking sites according to DR.

– The operation is very extensive and exceeds anything the defense has previously tried, says a source.

Among other things, Danish special forces and two F-35 planes are now said to be in Greenland. According to DR, the rearmament has been going on for several days. It aims to strengthen the military presence on the island and enable a potential defense effort.

The Danish Defense Forces decline to comment.
