Information: Trump's peace council may be expanded to include Ukraine and Venezuela
American
officials have raised the idea of expanding Trump's so-called peace
council, which is supposed to govern the Gaza Strip according to the
agreement between Israel and Hamas. This is stated by sources with
insight to the Financial Times.
According to the proposal, the
peace council, which Trump is to chair, could also be responsible for
issues related to other conflicts in the world, including Ukraine and
Venezuela. A source with insight says that the Trump administration sees
the peace council as “a possible alternative to the UN”.
Several diplomats the newspaper spoke to do not think it sounds like a good idea.
– This is not a normal procedure, says one informant.
A US official denies that the peace council plans to be responsible for any issues other than Israel-Gaza.
Rubio, Witkoff and Kushner take seats on the “peace council”
The
White House has presented a list of the men who will sit on Donald
Trump’s “peace council” for Gaza, Reuters reports. Secretary of State
Marco Rubio, special envoy Steve Witkoff and the president’s son-in-law
Jared Kushner are all included.
Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair's name is also on the list. Donald Trump himself will be the chairman.
Earlier
this week, Witkoff announced that the second phase of the ceasefire in
Gaza has begun. According to the agreement, a transitional government is
to take over the Gaza Strip. The transitional government is subordinate
to the peace council.
