NATO's future
Former NATO chief: The alliance is collapsing

NATO is collapsing. This is what the defense alliance's former Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen says in an interview with the German newspaper Welt.

- President Trump has raised so many doubts about his stance on Article 5 and the defense of Europe that Europeans can only draw one conclusion: We must stand on our own two feet and be able to defend the continent ourselves.

Europe needs a new defense coalition - neither the EU nor NATO can currently fill that role, according to Fogh Rasmussen, who led NATO between 2009 and 2014.

It should consist of countries that meet the five percent target, and individual states should not be able to veto military operations, he adds.

Election in Denmark
New party leader gets Danish exploratory mission

The leader of the liberal Venstre party, Troels Lund Poulsen, has been given the exploratory mission by the king and will now try to form a government in Denmark after Mette Frederiksen failed. This is reported by Danish media.

– It is a turning point in Danish politics because Mette Frederiksen is no longer at the helm. She will have to sit and wait for a call from the new royal investigator, says Danish TV2's political editor Hans Redder.

Troels Lund Poulsen has been given an “incredibly difficult task”, according to Redder.

– We are in what are already the longest government negotiations in Danish history, and I think we can add a few weeks, he says.

Poulsen has officially been given the task of leading negotiations on a government that does not include the Social Democrats and the Moderates, but in practice he can still negotiate freely.

Middle East crisis Oil market
Information: 3,000 barrels of oil may have leaked off the island of Kharg

An oil leak is spreading off the coast of the island of Kharg, reports the New York Times, which refers to satellite images.

It is unclear what caused the leak.

The leak appears to be at least 52 square kilometers in size, and is spreading towards Saudi Arabian waters. According to Orbital EOS, which maps oil leaks, more than 3,000 barrels of oil may have leaked into the water.

Kharg Island is very important for Iran's oil trade. About 90 percent of the oil exported from Iran is loaded on Kharg before leaving the Persian Gulf. According to experts, the Iranian economy would likely collapse without the island.
