The Rwandan asylum plans
Britain has sent first migrant to Rwanda

Britain has sent the first asylum seeker to Rwanda, Sky News and The Telegraph report.

The person has voluntarily accepted to be sent to the African country after having his asylum application rejected. The person left the UK on Monday on a commercial flight and was given a £3,000 relocation allowance.

- The Tories are so desperate to get the flights started before the election that they are paying people to go, says Labor politician Yvette Cooper to Sky News.

The controversial bill was passed a week ago. The law means that people who have entered the UK illegally must be sent to Rwanda and that their asylum examination must be carried out there.

Political situation in Georgia
Police fire tear gas at protesters in Georgia

Masked riot police fired tear gas and rubber bullets at protesters in Georgia on Tuesday evening, reports AFP. Several demonstrators have also been beaten and arrested by the police.

Thousands of people have demonstrated in recent weeks against a new law intended to stop what the government calls foreign influence and foreign agents.

Critics believe the law is a copy of a Russian law that forces media and organizations to register if they receive more than 20 percent of their funding from abroad. In Russia, the law is used to persecute regime critics and journalists.
