Authorities launch new dating app in Tokyo
To tackle Japan's aging population and record low birth rates, authorities in Tokyo are turning to a new approach: a dating app. This is reported by several media.
According to the Japanese newspaper The Asahi Shimbun, users will need to identify themselves with photo ID, provide an income certificate – and proof that you are actually single.
Tokyo has invested over a million dollars to develop the app, which is expected to launch this summer.

Childbirth in Japan reaches record lows
Childbirth in Japan reaches new lows, several media reports.
Japan, with its 123.9 million inhabitants, registered just 727,277 births in 2023, equivalent to 1.20 children per woman, according to new figures from authorities in the country. This means a decline from 1.26 from the previous year, writes The Japan Times.
In order for a population not to decrease, an average of 2.1 children per woman must be born, writes CNN.
