Indian election on the rise – first forecast expected
On Saturday, the sixth and final phase of the Indian elections began. Over 100 million people are registered in the six states that go to the polls today, including Punjab and the metropolis of Calcutta in West Bengal.
This afternoon, results from polling station surveys, which have been secret during the six-week election, are expected to be presented for the first time. According to Reuters, they have historically been difficult to trust.
The final election results will be made public on Tuesday, June 4. Most observers expect a victory for the ruling party BJP, and a new term for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Modi: The people have re-elected us in record numbers
Prime Minister Narendra Modi declares victory in India's election after polls show his party group gets its own majority in parliament.
"I can say with certainty that the Indian people have voted in record numbers to re-elect the government," he writes on X.
According to the polling stations, Modi's party BJP appears to be growing strongly. The opposition coalition INDIA appears to be getting barely half as many seats, and is far from being able to challenge Modi for the prime ministership. Final results are expected on Tuesday.
