Netanyahu's adviser: We accept flawed agreement
The government of Israel has agreed to the cease-fire agreement announced by Joe Biden on Friday. This is confirmed by an adviser to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in an interview with the Sunday Times.
- It is an agreement we have agreed to. It is not a good agreement, but we would very much like to get all the hostages home, says Netanyahu's foreign policy advisor Ophir Falk.
Netanyahu's attitude to the draft agreement has been a question mark since it was presented. Biden said the proposal came from Israel, but on Saturday Netanyahu said Israel stands by the demand that Hamas be destroyed before an end to the war can be discussed.
One explanation for the double messages could be that Netanyahu is being pressured from several sides. Loud public opinion at home demands an agreement to bring the hostages home, while his ultra-nationalist government base says flatly no to a ceasefire, writes the Sunday Times.

Opposition leader vows to save Netanyahu's government: "He has a safety net"
Israel must agree to the ceasefire proposal in Gaza. That's what the country's opposition leader Yair Lapid said on Saturday, promising to save Benjamin Netanyahu's government if the issue leads to political instability.
Earlier, Israel's two far-right ministers, Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir, had threatened to leave the government if Netanyahu supported the proposal.
- There is an agreement on the table, and it must be done. I remind Netanyahu that he has a safety net from us in this matter, Lapid said, according to Haaretz.
He also saw off the threats from Finance Minister Smotrich and Security Minister Ben-Gvir.
- This is the worst and most dangerous government in Israel's history. It could be war here forever as far as they are concerned. No accountability, no management, total failure.
