Israel on the UN's "list of shame" for crimes against children
UN Secretary-General António Guterres puts the Israeli military on the UN's "list of shame". On the list are perpetrators of serious abuse against children, reports Reuters.
It is probably the first time a democracy is on the list, writes the Times of Israel. Previous reports have referenced the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and mentioned abuses, but Israel has never before been listed among those responsible.
The so-called "list of shame" is part of an annual report on children in armed conflicts that is submitted to the UN Security Council on 14 June.
Among the abuses monitored by the UN are attacks on schools and hospitals, denial of access to humanitarian aid and the killing and mutilation of children.

Netanyahu rages against the UN: "The IDF is the world's most moral military"
Israel reacts strongly to the UN putting the country's military on its "list of shame" of perpetrators of gross abuse against children.
"The UN puts itself on the black list of history when you accept Hamas's absurd accusations. The IDF is the world's most moral military," writes Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on X.
Israel's envoy to the UN, Gilad Erdan, is "shocked and disgusted by this shameful decision", he says according to AFP. He claims this means the UN is encouraging Hamas.
According to Foreign Minister Israel Katz, the decision will have consequences for the country's relationship with the UN, writes the Times of Israel.
