Thailand's political situation
Thailand's new government talks still fruitless
Thailand's main opposition party, the progressive Prachachon, failed on Monday to agree on a prime ministerial candidate, AFP reports. The country is currently without a prime minister since Paetongtarn Shinawatra was convicted and ousted by the Constitutional Court last week.
Both Paetongtarn's Pheu Thai party and its former coalition partner Bhumjaithai are aspiring to the prime minister's post, but both parties need the support of Prachachon. Prachachon's leader has said that the party is ready to support any party, as long as that party promises to call new elections and agrees to implement constitutional reforms.
Prachachon will continue its efforts to reach an agreement on Tuesday.
Ex-minister suspected of child pornography
Danish ex-minister sentenced for possession of child pornography
Danish ex-minister Henrik Sass Larsen (S) has been sentenced to four months in prison for possession of child pornography, Danish media reports.
In total, the charges involve more than 6,200 images and more than 2,200 film sequences.
Sass Larsen has admitted possession but denied the crime. He has claimed that he was conducting private research because he himself was abused as a small child. This explanation has been described as “improbable and fabricated” by the prosecutor.
In the former minister’s home, the police also found a sex doll that was considered to depict a child. The doll was not seized and was never technically examined. It has therefore not been possible to determine whether the doll was used for sexual purposes. Sass Larsen is therefore acquitted on the charge relating to the doll.
European security policy
Former minister unhappy with response to attack
Former Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis seems unhappy with Europe's response to the Russian jamming attack that knocked out the GPS system on EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen's plane. In a sarcastic post on X, Landsbergis suggests that the statements following Russia's actions have been too soft.
"Deeply concerned to hear about the deeply worrying GPS jamming that led to von der Leyen's flight being diverted. Europe stands united in its deep concern and must now express even deeper concern going forward," the post reads.
Landsbergis has repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction with Europe's attempts to bring peace to Ukraine. In another post, he calls the "coalition of the willing" the "coalition of the worried."
