Governor roars back at Trump: "It's an invasion"

Donald Trump's ultimate goal in sending federal forces to American cities is to take control of next year's midterm elections. That's what JB Pritzker, the Democratic governor of the state of Illinois, told CBS News.

- He will just claim that there are problems with the election, and then he has forces in place to take control, he says after Trump's threat to send military troops to Chicago.

Pritzker accuses Trump of planning an "invasion with American troops".

On Sunday, Maryland Governor Wes Moore also sharply criticized Trump for wanting to interfere in more states' law enforcement and immigration policies.

In an interview with ABC News, Moore says that the decision to send the National Guard to Washington, DC is just a game for the galleries.

- I would like to see more support from the federal government, but then it should be about measures that actually work, he says.

The US is not allowed to deport children – already on the plane

Dozens of children from Guatemala had been brought aboard a plane awaiting deportation on Sunday. Then a judge ordered a temporary halt to the deportations before the plane could take off, reports the New York Times.

– The government is trying to send children out of the country in the wee hours of a holiday. It surprises me, says Judge Sparkle Sooknanan, who made a lightning decision early Sunday morning after being contacted by a lawyer representing some of the children.

Around 2,000 children, most of them from Guatemala, are in migrant detention centers around the United States. Guatemala has agreed with the US State Department to accept 600 of them.

The government's lawyer says that Guatemala has requested the deportations and that the children be reunited with their guardians. However, the lawyer says that several of the children have expressed fear of returning.
