Three-day ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia
Russia and Ukraine declare a ceasefire from May 9 to 11, Donald Trump writes on Truth Social.
"This request came directly from me, and I greatly appreciate that Presidents Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky agreed to it," he continues.
Kiev and Moscow confirm Trump's announcement.
The ceasefire is being held to celebrate Victory Day in Russia, but also in Ukraine "which was also a big part of World War II," Trump writes. During the ceasefire, all attacks will cease, and a prisoner exchange of 1,000 prisoners from each side will take place, he continues.
"I thank the US President and his team for their effective diplomatic participation. We expect the United States to ensure that the Russian side upholds the agreement," Zelensky wrote on Telegram.
The Ukrainian president has issued a formal order to the military not to attack Red Square in Moscow on Victory Day, writes AFP.

Pentagon releases new documents on UFOs
The US Department of Defense has begun releasing new documents on UFOs, that is, unidentified flying objects, reports AP.
According to the Pentagon, the public can draw their own conclusions about the information in the documents.
"These documents, hidden behind secrecy, have long caused justified speculation - and it is time for the American people to see them with their own eyes," wrote Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth in a post on X.
The Pentagon has created a website where they have published 162 documents. Many of them contain interviews with people who have seen flying objects or light phenomena that they have not been able to explain.
